About
Practice Emphasis:
Matthew represents clients at all stages of civil litigation and in administrative proceedings, including providing appellate services in both areas. He has extensive experience practicing in Oregon’s state and federal courts.
Professional Experience:
Immediately following graduation, Matthew divided his time between studying for the Oregon bar and clerking for Chief United States District Judge Ann Aiken (District of Oregon). Subsequently, Matthew completed a clerkship with United States District Judge Michael Simon (District of Oregon). This built on the experience he gained during law school, where he spent more than eight months as externs for Chief Judge Aiken and United States District Judge Marco Hernandez (District of Oregon).
Following his clerkships, Matthew gained substantial experience in all facets of the litigation process through his work for the State of Oregon and for several law firms. Matthew acted as second chair in an eight-day trial, achieving complete success for his client. He joined Vial Fotheringham LLP to continue to assist clients in successfully navigating that crucial time in their life or the life of their business—when that which they have built is threatened by or must utilize the legal system.
